Applied Practicum Experience for MCAH Students

MCAH students strengthen their leadership and practice knowledge and skills by completing an applied practicum experience. Students in the two-year, MSW/MPH, and 4+1 programs will meet this requirement through a 400-hour summer practicum (typically 10-week, full-time work experience with a host organization). Two-year MCAH students and MSW/MPH concurrent students will complete this requirement during the summer between the first and second year of the program. Students in the 4+1 program will complete this requirement the following summer after completing all coursework. Students in the 11-month program will complete the Applied Practicum Experience through an alternative requirement (i.e., a project for a community-based organization within a service-learning course)

Government, non-profit, private sector, and community-based health organizations provide internship and mentoring opportunities to MCAH students for field placements in the culturally rich and diverse communities of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
