Undergraduate Peer Advising

LEAP Peer Ambassadors are senior undergraduate public health students in our Advanced LEAP Scholar cohort. LEAP Peer Ambassadors connect with students who are interested in MCAH, share experiences about student life and community environment, and provide mentoring with academic planning and creating a balanced workload.

Nancy and Darleene are both senior undergraduate students studying public health at UC Berkeley and are in their final year of our Advanced LEAP Scholar curriculum!

Nancy Garcia (she/her)

Nancy is a fourth-year student majoring in Public Health and minoring in Chicanx/Latinx Studies. She is passionate about improving community health outcomes by mitigating health disparities disproportionately affecting marginalized populations. Through MCAH, she is focused on empowering families by bridging access to healthcare. She enjoys volunteering with the nonprofit Operation Access (OA) based in San Francisco. As a Health Navigator for OA, she translates for Spanish-speaking patients. She has also served as Co-Chair for Comunidad for Health Equity, a Latinx pre-health/pre-med student-run organization.

Darleene Nguyen (she/her)

Darleene is a fourth year studying Public Health and Molecular Cell Biology: CDP2. Her passion lies at the intersection of healthcare and education, focusing on perinatal health and youth-centered community work. Within MCAH, she is working on improving care outcomes for vulnerable populations to promote equity and preserve quality of care. Darleene approaches science with a public health perspective and has completed research in molecular ophthalmology, MedEd, and degenerative diseases using molecular imaging, therapeutics, and AI. Darleene also loves working with the K-12 population to bring STEM curriculum to girls in K-8 schools as well as promoting the retention and recruitment of post-secondary pathways for students grades 8-12.
